Whittier School is proud to have a strong commitment to technology and its integration into our curriculum whenever and wherever possible. We view technology as instructional tool and our Computer Lab as an extension of the classroom.
Each of our classrooms have two computers which are linked to laser printers located throughout our building. Our Computer Lab is equipped with 30 Dell computers, laser printers, a color laser printer, DVD burner and two scanners. Programs on all our computers include Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint and Excel), Internet Explorer, KidPix4, Adobe Photoshop, Print Shop, Type to Learn and Kidspiration, along with various grade level appropriate software programs. Our teachers also have access to several digital cameras and camcorders.
Our kindergarten, first and second grade classes visit the Computer Lab once a week for 30-45 minutes. Lab time for students in grades 3, 4 and 5 is assigned on flexible basis. A specific time each day is assigned to each grade level and the instructional team decides how that time will be used.
New for the 2008-2009 school year are 5 additional Smartboards. Whittier now has a total of 11 Smartboards located in each of our fifth (4), fourth (3), and third (3) grade classrooms as well as a portable Smartboard in the Library.
It is only thru the generosity and partnership of the Whittier Dream Foundation, The PTA and other generouos donors that these boards have become a reality. Whittier couldn't be more delighted with them. We hope to purchase additional SmartBoards in the future.
